Hauber & Reuther

Hauber & Reuther
Freising, Bavaria.
Hersteller & Künstmalerei / Manufacturers & Artist-decorators.
Founded by Adam Schön & Max Borho in 1876.  Max Bohro sold out to Albert Hauber in late 1876. Then in 1878, Schön also sold out to Hauber. Finally in 1882, the company became Hauber & Reuther when Hans Reuther became a partner. In 1886, Hauber & Reuther lost its supply of Westerwald stoneware clay, so they manufactured in porcelain instead. They also bought in manufactured stoneware steins from Simon Peter Gerz 1 Merkelbach & Wick  & Albert Jacob Thewalt for in-house decoration.
The factory finally closed in 1907.

The ink mark shows that it was "touched up" possibly with highlights afterwards. The ink mark is incorrect. It shows a type 1c/2, it should be a type 5. The "196a" is a decor number, which in this case becomes the model number.

Hauber & Reuther 12-8-22-1 The A.J.Thewalt factory sold undecorated, or partially decorated steins to HR who then completed them and marked them with a type 5 mark and later the type 6 rubber stamp marks (below), These steins also carried the Thewalt factory mark. All Thewalt activity was post 1897. The rubber stamps are also found on HR produced porcelain steins.  It is believed the rubber stamp was used after HR was no longer producing steins and were working off their inventory. Here we see A.J.Thewalt 3Ltr. #92, subsequently decorated by HR and type 6 stamp added.
Hauber & Reuther 18 Here we see A.J.Thewalt 0.5Ltr. #200, subsequently decorated by HR, given the decoration number 35 and type 5 signature added.
