Founded in 1817 by Georg Friedrich Horn as an earthenware factory, although he advertised it as a "Porcelain Factory" and subsequently a "Stone Porcelain Factory". Georg Friedrich Horn was a tax collector and as such was not allowed to run any company, therefore ownership of the factory was transferred to his two sons around 1822 and became Gebrüder Horn. In 1906 the name changed to Steingutfabrik Hornberg, Aktiengesellschaft, vormals Gebrüder Horn. In 1907 the name became Schwarzwälder Steingutfabrik, Aktiengesellschaft and run by a Dr. Ehrlich. Again in 1911 the name changed to Steingutfabrik Schwarzwald, G.m.b.H. until at least 1941. In 1912 production of earthenware crockery ceased and in 1956, production moved over entirely to porcelain. 1960 saw the change to a limited company, named Duravit G.m.b.H. Finally in 1988, the company became Duravit AG. Its current production is mainly porcelain bathroom products. Rudolf Ditmar and K. u. K. priviligierte Wilhelmsburger Steingut- und Porzellanfabrik have ended up via the same Keramik Holding Laufen, in the R.O.C.A. group.

"Der Deutsche Michel", mould #1045. Dated circa 1887 This stein has also been assigned the ECS225 number, which is shared with the "Monk" stein which uses Mould #138. To differentiate, "Der Deutsche Michel" is ECS225R.

Der Kamerun-Student or "The Cameroons Student" stein, mould 1005, ECS187. Dated circa 1887. "Loafer, depicted by the cane in the right hand, wearing a Cerevise. a student cap with no peak. The cerevise and the cuff links showing an "SC" in a circle. Dated 1887. 
Impressed mark on featured stein above, mould 1005, ECS187. 
A later impressed mark on another "The Cameroons Student" stein, mould 1005, ECS187. Circa 1887 - 1906. 
L/H Side, 1L. "Ear of Corn" (similar to #ECS266) Made in earthenware with a yellow coloured interior. Appears to be identical to example by Villeroy & Boch - Schramberg Not all pitchers originally had lids fitted, but when they did, then the lid would have extended over the pouring lip. This lid is the incorrect fitment. 
Mark on the base of "Ear of Corn" dates the stein to the year, 1906. × 
"Monk" #ECS225L uses mould #138. "Black Man" #ECS188 (L.H. Column) also uses mould #138. This stein has also been assigned the ECS225 number, which is shared with the "Der Deutsche Michel" stein which uses Mould #1045. To differentiate, the "Monk" is ECS225L.
