Silver plated lid hinged from a lip mounted band on the stein on the right. The shield depicts the Peace Building, which is the name given the General Stores Building at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine, which was the site of negotiations that led to the Treaty of Portsmouth, which formally ended the Russo-Japanese War of 1904 - 05. Theodore Roosevelt's role in the negotiations resulted in a Nobel Prize for the president.
