Georg(e) Heufel & Co.
Moritzstraße 2, Dresden, Saxony, Germany and Trenton, New Jersey. United States
Porzellanmaler / Porcelain decorator
He was born circa 1866. He learnt his trade in Dresden, decorating in the Meissen and Vienna style, up until 1901. His earliest work seen so far is dated circa 1891. He departed Hamburg for the United States on 25 July 1901 aboard the "SS Deutschland". It is unknown, but he might have been lucky enough to obtain work straightaway from 1901, at the Ceramic Art Company which became Lenox Inc. in 1906. Certainly there are many examples of his work at Lenox. He was listed in the Trenton City Directory from 1906-1925, first as a decorator/potter, then a "clay doctor" and then as an osteopath using clay compresses to treat patients. He was a graduate of the American College of Naturopathy. The 1910 census shows he lived 21 miles away in Solebury, Bucks, Pennsylvania with his wife Heldah (also born in Germany) and with sons John (b.1906), George (b.1909) and daughter Bertha (b.19**).
He died in Florida on the 15th October 1950, age 84.
