Franz Stuck was born 24th Feb.1863, in Tettenweis Nr. Passau, the son of a village miller. 
He designed three steins, in 1891, for Villeroy & Boch - Mettlach #2007, #2008 & #2009, all themed on various subjects in the poem "The Trumpeter of Säckingen" published in 1853 by Joseph Victor von Scheffel (b.1826 - d.1886). By 1891 he had also designed the V&B-M #2058, Pokal, (illustrated).
He was rewarded with a knighthood (Ritter von) by Prinzregent Luitpold of Bavaria on the 9th Dec. 1905, which was confirmed in the "nobility directory" on the 2nd Jan 1906, after which time he assumed the name of Franz Ritter von Stuck. He died 30th August 1928, in Munich.
